SEG (Society of Exploration Geophysicists) EVOLVE Program offers second Geothermal Cohort

Baltimore, MD – GTI’s Jim Hollis, Dr. Al Lacazette, and Dr. Veit Matt participated as industry mentors in this year’s SEG EVOLVE program, the second year the program featured geothermal energy exploration. The award-winning program provides a mentor-guided virtual internship opportunity for university teams to leverage real-world data to explore and commercially assess resource opportunities.

This year’s cohort consists of teams from CICESE/CalTech, Oklahoma State, the University of Nebraska, and the University of Texas Permian Basin.  GTI has helped to guide these teams through a GenaSys™ geothermal exploration and economic evaluation exercise in the Cooper Basin of Australia.  The teams were tasked to perform an in-depth analysis of the GenaSys geothermal energy potential of multiple Hot Sedimentary Aquifers coincident with one of Australia’s prolific onshore hydrocarbon locations.

“This is the second year of guiding students, often from Oil and Gas technology programs, through the similar but different work flow of exploring Hot Sedimentary Basins and designing commercial Sedimentary Geothermal Systems.  I continue to be very impressed by the caliber of both the student teams and the SEG mentors.” said Jim Hollis, COO of GTI.
