GTI’s Jim Hollis, Dr. Al Lacazette, and Dr. Veit Matt participated as industry mentors in this year’s SEG EVOLVE program. The award-winning program provides a mentor-guided virtual internship opportunity for university teams to leverage real-world data to explore and commercially assess resource opportunities.
EVOLVE includes exploration workflows; subsurface characterization; economics and business management training that has been historically focused on oil & gas exploitation. This year, at the SEG’s request, GTI helped to guide two teams through a GenaSys™ geothermal exploration and evaluation exercise in the Cooper Basin of Australia. Under GTI’s guidance two teams of undergraduate and graduate students, from the University of Houston and the University of Calgary, successfully performed an in-depth analysis of the GenaSys geothermal energy potential of multiple Hot Sedimentary Aquifers coincident with one of Australia’s prolific onshore hydrocarbon locations. Both teams have been chosen to present their findings at the SEG’s IMAGE conference (https://www.imageevent.org/) in Houston this August to a large international audience. Please attend if you can!
