GTI’s Jim Hollis, working closely with other global geothermal experts, is helping the United States DOE (Department of Energy) to better understand potential synergies between geothermal energy exploration and production and the data and technologies currently employed by the oil and gas industry.  The multi-faceted GEODE team will spend 9 months exploring these synergies and identifying areas where industry collaboration can help scale and expand the contribution that geothermal energy makes in supplying clean, firm power to the world.

As stated by the DOE’s Geothermal Technology Office (GTO), ”Although the U.S. geothermal resource is vast, only a small portion of it has been developed due to unique challenges associated with subsurface environments, along with process issues with geothermal projects, such as long permitting timelines. Accessing the expertise, technologies, and experience of the similar but much larger domestic oil and gas industry can help overcome barriers and encourage private investment. These advances and access to capital can help the country realize the exponential growth potential of geothermal energy. Through industry collaboration, geothermal deployment can expand to bring clean, reliable power to more than 130 million American homes and businesses.”

About the DOE’s GTO Office:
The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Geothermal Technologies Office (GTO) works to reduce costs and risks associated with geothermal development by supporting innovative technologies that address key exploration and operational challenges.

About Geothermal Technologies, Inc.:
Geothermal Technologies (GTI) was founded in 2018 to commercialize technology that was developed at the Johns Hopkins University.  GTI’s GenaSys™ Geothermal Energy Harvesting System revolutionizes how we harness renewable energy.  GTI’s innovative technologies, when coupled with recently developed oil & gas and power generation technologies, enable the company to produce clean, renewable, low cost, baseload electricity, throughout the world, for decades to come.
